Making Time Animals between ARt, SCience and STS

I am very pleased to share a publication co-written with my collaborators Louise Whiteley and Isabella Martin now available in the Spring issue of the journal Configurations: Project MUSE - Playing Seriously: Making Time Animals Between Art, Science, and STS

This piece is a reflection on the process of making the artwork Time Animals (2021) which was featured in the Kunsthal Charlottenborg exhibition The World is in You. The artwork was a culmination of collaborative work between Isabella and I stretching back to 2019. The artwork is our own interpretation of the science of chronobiology - and what it takes to be a scientist working around the clock to answer fundamental questions about the nature of circadian rhythms. In the process, we learned a lot about how art and science come together, and how STS (Science and Technology Studies) might act as an interlocutor to facilitate ‘playing seriously’.

You can find out more about this work and also Isabella’s fascinating artistic practice here: Time - Isabella Martin

Writing an interdisciplinary publication is a labour of love that involves hard work, compromise and a lot of patience. I am so happy with how this piece turned out!
